Construction Begins on Port of Montreal Expansion Project

The Port of Montreal expansion project has commenced, with construction workers building a new wharf at Contrecoeur, downriver from Montreal. The Montreal Port Authority is overseeing the project, which involves constructing a stone jetty in the St. Lawrence River to serve as a platform for machinery and eventual shipping container yard. Approximately 250,000 tonnes of stone have been delivered so far, with more expected. This expansion marks the first 'nation-building' project approved by the federal government to commence construction. The Port of Montreal has partnered with terminal operator DP World and secured a $1.16-billion loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
